Brazil kicked off their bid for a first Women’s World Cup trophy on a winning note after dismissing Panama 4-0 in their Group F opener at the 2023 tournament inside the Hindmarsh Stadium in Australia on Monday.

Ary Borges starred for the South Americans after netting a three-timer in the game to score the tournament’s first hattrick.

The winger bagged a brace in the first half before assisting Bia Zaneratto shortly after the break with a backheel before heading home the fourth goal.

Brazil’s opening two goals came similarly, as perfectly clipped crosses from the left by Debinha, met by the head of Ary in the 19th and 39th minutes to send the football giants on their way.

The first header directly beat Panama keeper Yenith Bailey, while the second was tucked away by Ary on a rebound.

She unselfishly delayed her hattrick after laying off a ball for team-mate Zaneratto who finished off a superb team play into the roof of the net for their third in the 48th minute.

Avry however returned in the 70th minute to complete her hattrick after neatly putting the ball through Bailey’s legs to make it 4-0 and wrap up the fixture.

The result catapults Brazil atop Group F which also features France and Jamaica, who are currently second and third respectively following a goalless draw in their Cup opener on Sunday.

The Jamaicans will next face Panama on Sunday (July 29), while France and Brazil clash in their second game of the tournament also on Sunday.
