Yohan Blake clocked a season’s best in the men’s 100m however, had to settle for seventh in the Rome/Florence Diamond League on Friday.

Blake running from lane two, posted 10.15 seconds, shaving .03 seconds off his previous best effort in Rabat last week.

The race was won by American Fred Kerley in a time of 9.94 seconds as he maintains his unbeaten streak this season. The win also made it two against Kenyan sensation Ferdinand Omanyala who clocked 10.05 for second, moving up from his third-place finish in Morocco.

USA’s Trayvon Bromell, who pipped Omanyala for the runner up spot last week, was relegated third on Friday with a season’s best time of 10.08 seconds.

Blake’s finish sees him fall two places to seventh on the Diamond League points table.

It was an equally dismal day for the other Jamaicans at the meet as Olympic women’s 400m finalist Candice McLeod also tumbled to seventh in the Diamond League ranks after her seventh-placed finish in a time of 52.09 seconds.

The event was won by Poland’s Natalia Kaczmarek in a season’s best 50.41 seconds.  Netherland’s Lieke Klaver-50.75s and Lyna Irby-Johnson-50.84 were second and third respectively.

American pair of Shamier Little and Anna Hall were second and third in season best times of 53.38s and 54.42s respectively.

The Rome leg of the Diamond League ended with a bang as Kenya’s Faith Kipyengon set a new world record in the women’s 1500m stopping the clock at 3:49:11s to eclipse the previous record of 3:50.07s set by Ethiopia’s Genzebe Dibaba in 2015.
