Benzema signs new contract with Real Madrid

France International Karim Benzema has signed a new 1-year-contract extension with La Liga champions Real Madrid which will keep the mercurial striker at the club until June 30 2023.

Benzema 34, had experienced the best run of form in his career last season netting 42 times including 27 goals in the la liga and 15 goals in the champions league to bag the golden boot awards for both competitions.

Form which saw him being the most lethal striker in the world last season to also become the overwhelming favorite to win his first Ballon D’or award as the best player in the world.

The French man who transferred to the club in 2009 from Ligue 1 team Monaco, has so far netted 320 times since his arrival and has flourished in the last two years, the latter his best, ever leading Madrid’s charge in reclaiming la Liga and Champions league honors.

The 34-year-old has proven that age has no bearing on his performances except to make him better. Given that the Mbape and Halaand deals fell through the dynamic partnership between himself and Vinicius Jr is expected to again come to the fore, at least for another year with the  Benzema seeking to prove that his year of dominance was not a fluke.

Fellow stalwarts such as Luka Modric and Toni Kroos have also signed on for a final year at the club which also signals the end of a creative era in Madrid for the players.
