Sadio Mane has been suspended following a dressing room scuffle with teammate Leroy Sane.
The incident followed Bayern Munich’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Bayern confirmed the news via a statement on their website on Thursday.
“Sadio Mane 31, will not be included in the FC Bayern squad for this Saturday’s home match against 1899 Hoffenheim. This is due to his misconduct after Bayern’s Champions League match at Manchester City.”
The statement also noted that the former Liverpool player would be financially penalized for the incident
“Mané will also be given a fine.”
According to reports, the two players had a heated exchange following the final whistle in Manchester, which is said to have spilled over into the Bayern dressing room.
It’s understood that Mane took a strong issue with the manner in which Sane spoke to him during the game which led to the post-match confrontation.
German publication BILD, reports that Mane had hit Sane in the face as tempers boiled over between both players, with the two having to be separated by teammates and Bayern staff.
Both players have since apologized to the club.
While the stated suspension officially speaks to Mane’s domestic appearance on Saturday, it remains unclear if he will be selected for the return leg of the quarter-final game against City in Munich next Wednesday (April 19).
