A Baltimore daycare owner is now facing assault charges after it was discovered that she shot her husband during a confrontation over allegations that he molested children in her care.
The accused, Shanteari Weems, is charged with assault with intent to kill and possession of an unregistered firearm, as well as other offenses, in connection with the July 21 shooting and an ensuing standoff with law enforcement at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in the District.
Weems also pleaded guilty on Monday to aggravated assault and carrying a pistol without a license outside a home or business.
Reports indicate that on Thursday, July 21, Weems got into a heated argument with her husband James S. Weems Jr. who is a police officer at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in D.C. after discovering that he reportedly sexually assaulted three children from her daycare.
The report further stated that as the argument escalated, Shanteari opened fire hitting James in his neck and leg. Subsequently, the victim was transported to hospital where he was treated and later released.
After being released, James was slapped with 30 counts of child sexual abuse.
In the interim Shanteari is slated to return to court on February 3 where she will answer gun-related charges.
