Arsenal FC will enter 2023 with a seven-point lead in the English Premier League following their 4-2 victory over Brighton Hove Albion on Saturday to close out the final fixture of the year on a high.

The Gunners who were already assured pole position irrespective of the result ensured they had additional insurance heading into the second half of the season.

Arsenal talisman Bukayo Saka continued to hit for the target team after banging in his sixth goal of the season after just two minutes into the game.

That bullet start was seemingly a foreshadowing of what was to come as the gunners added two more before the hour mark with Martin Odegaard and Eddie Nketiah in the 39th and 47th minutes making it 3-0.

Brighton’s fightback did however begin shortly after the hour as Kaoru Mitoma pulled one back in minute 65, before Evan Ferguson’s 77th-minute shot to cut the deficit back to two after Gabriel Martinelli added Arsenal’s fourth in the 71st.

Despite Brighton dominating possession, the league made the most of their chances which resulted in the final result.

After witnessing chasers Manchester City fumble against Everton, a 4-2 for Arsenal shows the composure the squad has developed as they go seven points clear and more importantly, a step closer to the league title.

Arsenal ends 2022 on at the summit with 43 points followed by Manchester City- 36 with Newcastle United third with 34 points as the top three teams.
