Winter Olympic-bound skier, Benjamin Alexander, hinted that Jamaica may already have a crop of Winter sports athletes ready to make an impact in future winter games.
During an interview with SLEEK JAMAICA MEDIA, the Winter sports athlete noted that a group of Jamaicans that have shown great interest in pursuing the sport has already been identified.
“I have already identified five Jamaicans who will be part of the ski and snowboard team going into the next Olympics in 2026,” he shared, noting that other persons have reached out to him about representing the country in the in-snow events based on his achievement.
The former disc jock turned skier, made the revelation while speaking about continuity in the sport and generating interest for the future aspirants.
While remaining tight-lipped on disclosing the names of the new crop skiers, he did share that they are being mentored and groomed to navigate the various aspects of the sports such as rules, event standards, and rigors necessary to excel.
Alexander pointed out that he’s interested in building a network of interested Jamaicans, both local and in the diaspora, in order to create a pool of candidates to represent the country.

An excited Alexander reiterated that the main goal of his participation was to break barriers and inspire future generations of Jamaicans looking on with hopes of growing the sports.
“I think it’s incredible to open up a new discipline for Jamaica to think about and to think they that can be competitive in,” he shared.
In regards to the local sporting body’s contribution, he explained that the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA), is interested in expanding more into winter sports. He said that dialogue is being had about future investments to fund training, camping, and event participation in the future.
“At some point when there is enough money, the JOA will be able to choose persons that are homegrown. Also, identifying the ones who have the best potential to gain success and just pay for them to live [and train]. That’s however a more long-term goal and I’m just excited about what this [Olympic qualification] will mean for Jamaica going forward,” he concluded.
On January 15, Benjamin joined the list of Jamaican Winter Sports pioneers, by becoming the first-ever Alpine Skier from the island to qualify for a Winter Olympic game.
The 2022 Winter Olympics will take place in Beijing from February 4-20, 2022.
