Teen sprint sensation Alana Reid and rising talent Deandre Daley headline Jamaican qualifiers in the men’s and women’s 100m semifinals at the World U-20 Championships in Lima, Peru.

Reid kicked things off for Jamaica in the women’s sprints after logging 11.46 seconds for victory in heat three ahead of Germany’s Chelsea Kadiri, 11.51 seconds, and USA’s Taylor Snaer, 11.58s as the top three automatic qualifiers.

Reid who advances as the second-fastest qualifier will be the lone Jamaican for the women after teammate Thieanna Lee Terrelonge failed to progress after posting 12.03 seconds for fourth, finishing outside of the qualifying times for the next round.

Jamaica fared better in the men’s equivalent with Daley taking heat 6 in 10.37 seconds to make it back-to-back wins after teammate Gary Reid bagged the previous heat in 10.40 seconds.

They will all line up again for a shot in the final when the semifinals run off later today.
