One of the fastest men ever to grace the track, Yohan Blake, has created a name for himself in the history book of athletics. As he eyes qualification for what is said to be his final Olympic Games, we look at some of his accomplishments over the years.
World Champs
Yohan Blake made the athletics world stand up and take note after becoming the youngest-ever men’s 100m World Champion at 21 years old, following his golden run in the 100m final at the 2011 Daegu World Championships. The win also made him the second Jamaican to claim the title behind Usain Bolt as he ensured the gold remained in Jamaica’s possession.
Olympics
Blake’s exploits in Daegu were a precursor to his Olympic accolades as he deposited three more medals into his account with double silver in the sprints at the 2012 London-hosted Games. He also delivered a sizzling third leg on the world record 4x100m team to help Jamaica defend its title.
Numbers don’t lie
In addition to Blake’s Olympic and World Champs success, he has the second-fastest times ever recorded in both sprints. The former St.Jago star posted a jaw-dropping 9.69 PB in the 100m and an eye-watering 19.26 seconds in the 200m.
The sprint great, who has been hampered by injuries over the years including a potential career-ending major muscle injury has shown a glimpse of his class in recent times after posting 19.86 seconds to claim the National title in 2022 to qualify for World Champs in Oregon.
Blake, who declared Paris as his final Olympic Games pursuit, will undoubtedly be aiming for a memorable season as he prepares to pass the torch to the next generation such as training partner Ackeem Blake.
