A popular local slang goes “dancehall cya stall.” That certainly holds true to the artistic versatility of Jamaica’s dancing personalities. We look at a few dancers who have also experienced success as recording artistes.

Ding Dong

Undoubtedly the front-runner when it comes to delivering both recording and dance performances, Ding Dong has become a staple in both spaces when it comes to trending dances and accompanying songs, which more often than not, transcend the dance category.

With tracks such as “Watch Dem“, “Cha Cha Bwoy,” his mega-hit “Happiness,” and the summer anthem “Holiday,” the Ravers clavers boss has maintained a spot in the conversation of dancehall hitmakers over the years. In addition to working with top local names, he also worked with the likes of Afrobeat giant Davido, who he is set to make an appearance with on a current North American tour.

Chi Ching Ching

From “Way Up” to “Roast or Fry” to “Get There,” Chi Ching Ching has taken his talent of coining catch phrases” and coming up with dance steps to a successful career as an artiste, making the most of his niche in the dance songs space.

Kaka Highflames

Fast-riser Kaka Highflames is the latest to break through and pull an audience both on the dance floor and on streams, as the young dancer/artiste who has been making waves with his steps has equally been receiving positive feedback about his releases thus far. Tracks such as Flamez Rock, Track Suit From Bridge and Macarena have been among trending drops from the teen who has also earned a call-up to perform at this year’s Reggae Sumfest.

Popeye Caution

While most persons would readily associate Popeye Caution with his dance songs, his entrance into the entertainment space was via dancing as part of the noted “Caution Squad.” Now a full-fledged recording act, he has worked with several noted personalities locally and internationally such as Ding Dong, Safaree and Busta Rhymes.
