It could be the end of an era for one of the top brass of local motor racing, as Doug “Hollywood” Gore is maintaining his stance on exempting himself from the local circuit following allegations of racism.

The many-time national champion doubled down on his stance to stay away from the local circuit following the jarring allegations of being subjected to racist behaviour which came to a boil during Independence of Speed in August at the Dover Raceway.

Speaking with Sleek Jamaica, Gore shared that it has been an ongoing situation over the years that would have typically remained banter; however, the rhetoric seemingly mushroomed into a more offensive undertone, parts of which included a WhatsApp thread around the incident being shared online. An act that appeared to be the last straw for the veteran racer.

The incident saw Gore issue an ultimatum for the removal of Chairman Nichloas Barnes or his indefinite withdrawal from local racing.

Following the appeal, a major gap in the local racing space appears to be looming, as several racers have expressed solidarity with the withdrawal from the local circuit until the issue finds a resolution, Gore said.

He also noted that neither the Jamaica Racer Car Drivers Club (JRDC) nor Mr. Barnes have reached out to find a resolution on the matter.

Gore has also dismissed talks of overreacting as he reflected, noting that his treatment appeared to be motivated by a personal vendetta against him by Mr. Barnes (Nicholas) after Barnes was reported for the alleged use of a banned fuel, methanol, months prior.

Despite the current impasse, Gore has expressed openness to reconciling should Barnes be willing to come to the table.

Gore will next be in action in Barbados and Guyana in September and November.
