Dancehall superstars Vybz Kartel and Spice look set to add another plaque to their accolades following news that their iconic 2008 Billboard hit “Rompng Shop” has become eligible for RIAA Gold certification in the U.S. for cumulative sales of 500,000 units.

According to a recent update from the online music tracking page Music Data on Thursday night, the single has now exceeded the unit threshold to earn the status of a certified release in the States.

The feat would make it the second golden accolade for both acts, with ” Kartel’s hit Fever” officially certified Gold and Spice’s “So Mi Like” also reported to have met the eligibility for gold in 2023 and most recently platinum elevation for platinum for One Million Units, as per the onlineMusic tracker.

“Romping Shop”, which was originally released as a “Jamaicanized” remixed-type song over the instrumental of Ne-Yo’s smash “Miss Independent”, became an instant cultural hit following its drop, penetrating several international markets as a must-play pairing with the original before it was elevated to the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, peaking at 76.
