Mavado continues to strike the right notes among the new generation of his fans internationally, as his 2012 classic, “When You Feel Lonely”, was officially Brit-certified silver in the UK for registered sales of 200,000 units in the territory.
The track’s status, officially updated on Friday, sees Mavado earn his first official individual Brit certification.
The DASECA-produced banger, an instant hit following its release, remained a cult classic for the ladies over the years as part of Mavado’s expansive music catalogue of playlist staples across generations of audiences in various markets.
The certification comes on the heels of the official release of the collaborative remix titled “Addicted to You” by popular UK DJ and producer DJCassUK. The track, which is a mashup of the Mavado song and “Addicted” by Ryan Leslie and Cassie’s. “Addicted to You”, which has exploded as a viral social media sound and, in effect, has also seen a massive surge in discovery of the original song by a new generation of listeners.
“When You Feel Lonely” has upwards of 46 million streams on Spotify and over 30 million views across YouTube channels, with the updated remix, “Addicted You”, already racking up more than 12 million streams on Spotify.
The “Gully Gad” who recently returned to performing in the UK over the past few years, of course, has been a major dance figure among music lovers, underlined by the massive reception during his joint Gully/Gaza set with fellow music juggernaut Vybz Kartel at the sold-out O2 Arena show in London.
