As Carnival 2024 fast approaches, soca star Lyrikal has teamed up with the iconic David Rudder for the collaboration “Major Damage” as they aim to invade all fetes with love and unity.

“LEGENDARY to say the least” is how Lyrikal classified the collaboration, he said, “It was an absolute honor to collaborate with one of my favorite artistes of all time, THE KING David Michael Rudder.”

The soca star adds that Rudder is a “Cultural Icon and a living legend in every aspect.” He explained that this collaboration is “Extremely special to me, and the opportunity is greatly appreciated.”

The song was written by both Lyrikal and Rudder which is produced by NMG Music & XplicitMevon. While it has strong elements of soca, there is also some element of calypso.

Major Damage” embraces good vibes and promotes unity at all levels of Carnival across the region.

They also highlight the importance of soca/Carnival with the tourism industries – at a point Lyrikal sings “People fly from foreign, to come take a taste to Grove and shake their waist and enjoy the weather.”

For the icon Rudder, while he agrees it’s good vibes for Carnival 2024, the women are the key as he sings several times that “The Women look so appealing.”

While the two have known each other for years, “Major Damage” is their first recorded project together.

Rudder is a Trinidadian, known to be one of the most successful calypsonians of all time.

The song is now available on all streaming platforms.
