As the generation changes, manners plus respect for self and others continue to fall, Basillia Barnaby-Cuff a mommy and wife is seeking to reinforce the importance of never forgetting the ‘ones and twos’ with her book “Adventures in Mannershill Valley.”
The media personality turned social media comedian, in an interview with SLEEK explained that the title “The Adventures in Mannershill Valley” plays on what the book is about- teaching children how to be polite, in a fun, adventurous, and imaginative way.”
She also explained that she had always wanted to be an author but wasn’t sure what her focus would be until she was invited to write an original Children’s story for a competition and read it.
After this was made public, Basillia said she kept getting messages from persons requesting the paperback version of the book she had read – which was non-existent at the time. That’s when she decided to develop the story some more and turn it into a book.
Writing can be challenging, especially that of a children’s book, but for the Sterling Gospel Awards creator, this was easy, “as it flowed from my upbringing and also from being a mother of two young girls,” she said.
The main challenge for her was having the storybook illustrated “It took almost a year of going back and forth to get it right. I wanted to ensure that every detail of the illustration matched what my vision was for the book and how I wanted it to look on paper.”
For Basillia, the most impactful lesson in the book is the importance of using good manners everywhere and to everyone, and also “the impact being courteous can have on one’s life and the lives of others”.
“The Adventures in Mannershill Valley” was published through Norwood Creative Hub Publishing- a Canadian-based publishing house.

It’s available on Amazon and in JAMAICA for delivery via Knutsford Express or Doorway Express.
