Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly in line to be Brazil’s next Head Coach for the upcoming World Cup cycle.
Ancelotti, who is entering the final season of his current deal with Spanish league giant Real Madrid, is said to officially take the reigns for the Brazil national programme in 2024 when his contract expires.
President of Brazil’s Football Confederation (CBF); Ednaldo Rodrigues, confirmed Ancelotti’s pending role at the helm of the national set-up during a press conference on Wednesday night.
“Diniz is our coach and he will coach both Fluminenese and the Brazilian national team during this period of time. For us, he’s not an interim coach and he has a one-year contract. He will then be succeeded by Ancelotti, who will be here for the Copa America” said Rodrigues.
Noted football Journalist Fabrizio Romano also shared news of his confirmation via his social media on Wednesday.
The news comes months after President Rodrigues declared that the Italian was their top target for the post after the previous head coach, Adenor Leonardo Bacchi otherwise known as Tite, stepped down following Brazil’s World Cup quarter-final exit last year.
“He [Ancelotti] is a coach who has this vision and courage to put new talents to play. No disrespect to any other coach. Brazil has many coaches that we have great appreciation for, and who are competent, but we have a plan and plan A is exactly that [Ancelotti],” said Rodrigues.
The transition to the national team is expected to be relatively seamless for the Italian, having coached several Brazilians over his club career including Madrid strikers; Vinicius Jr, Rodrigo, and Tottenham Hotspurs’ Richarlison during his spell at Everton.
