Lashley ‘Motto’ Winter was recently honoured by the US House of Representatives, the Atlanta Government, and Atlanta Carnival as an instrumental figure within the soca industry over the past 13 years.
He received the honour on May 27, 2023 in Fulton County, Atlanta Georgia. The day has since been proclaimed “Motto Appreciation Day.”
Motto sees this recognition as a source of motivation for aspiring artistes and entertainers.
The Saint Lucia native while reflecting on his journey said “I started as a young boy, riding bikes and playing football on the local field. Now, after thirteen years, to stand as a respected figure in the soca industry and play a vital role in the downtown carnival committee is beyond anything I could have imagined.”

He is a cultural ambassador for Saint Lucia, flying the blue, white, yellow and black flag. While expressing gratitude for the recognition he has received, Motto emphasized the importance of unity and support from the Saint Lucian government.
The ‘One Woman’ singer, believes that by working together, they can amplify the impact and accomplishments of the country.
“Mr. Grand Marshall,” says he hopes the government of Saint Lucia recognises the value of collaboration and seizes the opportunity to further promote local talented artistes.
