Miami Heat took their first step in returning to the championship round after beating the Boston Celtics 123-116 at TD Gardens, to take a 1-0 lead in their Eastern Conference finals on Wednesday.

In one of the most interesting games in the playoffs this season, the Heats claimed one quarter but managed to pull off a fairly comfortable win away.

After trailing the first two quarters; 30-28 and 36-29, Miami applied the heat in the third period; 46-25 to reverse Boston’s advantage heading into the final quarter.

That pressure paid dividends in the end as the lead was ultimately too much for the Celtics to overturn.

Despite Miami also relinquishing the fourth quarter 25-20, the damage was already done as they held on for the seven-point win at the buzzer to take the opening game of the series.

Jayson Tatum, who dropped a 51-point double-double to steer Boston past the Philadelphia 76ers, followed up with another team-high performance of 31 points

He however, had to play second fiddle to MVP candidate Jimmy Butler, who posted a game-high 35 points with five rebounds to guide the Heat across the line in Boston.

The Celtics will have a chance to rebound at home when they return to the garden for game two on Friday.
