Media personality Amelia “Milk” Sewell sings praises for embattled dancehall stars Vybz Kartel and Shaggy after revealing how much they aided in her return to the media landscape and general well-being following her debacle.
Speaking to Simone Clarke, host of the noted talk show ‘Sim Soul Sessions’, Milk shared candid and emotional revelations about the integral role both deejays played in her successful reintroduction into media.
“I am going to make this thing okay for you. Come and work for me. I’m going make you the road manager anytime Lisa Hype, Sheba, or Gaza Slim, or Shawn storm goes away [for shows], you can be the road manager,” she recalls Kartel extending earning opportunities to her.
“So without him bringing me into the fold… he created songs about the situation and that was my paycheck,” an emotional Milk reflected.
The TV personality also noted that Shaggy along with Kartel was among the few persons who offered support during her darkest moments whilst being seen as a pariah by many in the local business and media landscape.
“Shaggy was the first person to call and say listen, keep your head up, you didn’t do anything wrong, people out there doing worse… that’s a man and woman business,” Milk explained.
“He said come and be in the Bad Man Don’t Cry video so that people know that Shaggy is on your side and I don’t feel bad putting you back out there,” she added.
The popular media personality and host also shared that women’s groups were mum about her situation and offered no comfort during her darkest moment professionally
“No women’s group called me. I didn’t get comfort,” adding that it was through divine intervention she pulled emotional strength and direction to press forward and maneuver those days.
“The only comfort I got was from God himself,” Milk explained, adding, “between me and God himself we worked it out, we worked it out”.
She emphasized her relationship with God is and has been a pertinent aspect of her life despite being in the secular realm, however, it was that connection that acted as an anchor for her amidst her confusion.
She also made note of being homeless at one point and forced to sleep in her car whilst considering her options.
Milk has since been a very visible participant in several aspects of local media and entertainment space.
These projects included managing the Famous Night Club (Now Buzzers) in Portmore, producing CVM tv’s morning s well as producing and hosting Kartel’s ‘Teacher’s Pet’ reality show before delving into other endeavors.
Following the leak of an explicit video in 2008, Milk was relieved of several media-related responsibilities for years until her gradual return to the sector.
