Nicki Minaj continues to show that her admiration for dancehall goes beyond the current playlists of the new generation, as she showed respect to veteran deejay Ninja Man after using his 1990 song ‘Number One’ as the theme music for the recap of behind-the-scenes moments from her ‘Red Ruby Da Sleeze’ video.
Minaj, a long-time fan of Dancehall music, has incrementally kept fans abreast of her activities in Trinidad via social media.
In her latest Instagram post, she flexed her knowledge of the pioneering sound of the genre with the selection of the self-styled “original Gold teeth Don Gorgan”- Ninja man for the teaser.
The Young Money rapper spent Carnival weekend in Trinidad and Tobago where she also brought along ‘Likkle Miss’ collaborator, dancehall star Skeng Don during her visit.
Minaj’s ‘Red Ruby Da Sleeze’ single which samples the Diwali riddim via Lumidee track-never leave is set for release at midnight Thursday, with the official video to follow later on Friday, March 3.
The ‘Beez in the Trap’ hitmaker who has been heavily reconnecting with her Caribbean roots via collabs has also shared her intention to visit Jamaica for Carnival which is set for April.
