A Bolivian convict was re-accosted and taken back to prison following his failed escape, after disguising himself as a sheep and crawling through the grassland area surrounding the Chonchocoro prison in La Paz, Bolivia.

In what could be described as a real-life ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing, José Luis Callisaya Diaz – who is serving a 15-year sentence for homicide, is reported to have wrapped himself in sheepskin in a failed attempt to deceive guards about his movement on the grounds.

According to reports, Diaz, whose alias is ‘El Araña’ (the spider), had successfully snuck past Chonchocoro prison security by crawling through the grass in the middle of the night.

He then attempted to break through one of the facility walls in a bid to complete his escape.

His would-be prison break was however foiled after guards later noticed that ‘El Araña’ was no longer in his cell before authorities scrambled in search to bring the cunning criminal back into detention.

It’s understood that the guards caught up to Diaz while in the act, fully cloaked in sheepskin on all ‘fours’ as he inched across the grassy field on his hands and knees.

Diaz wearing the sheep wool jacket and dark pants, while appearing to trail through the grass, impersonating the farmyard animal.

It’s understood that the prisoner thought he could’ve taken advantage of the cold weather to execute his great escape.

The director of prisons across Bolivia; Juan Carlos Limpias, moved to reassure the country that the escape artist was back in custody.

He said: ‘We inform the Bolivian population that prison security police officers from the San Pedro de Chonchocoro Penitentiary Center prevented the escape of prisoner José Luis Callisaya Diaz (alias El Araña), who took advantage of the inclement weather to try to flee through one of the walls of the external perimeter of the prison.’
