Public holiday declared in Saudi Arabia following win in World Cup

The nation of Sadia Arabia will be having the “day off” on Wednesday as King Salman declared a public holiday on November 23, to commemorate the team’s historic 2-1 upset over Argentina in their opening group game at the World Cup on Tuesday.

According to reports, all public and private sector employees along with students in Saudi Arabia will have Wednesday free as the country continues its celebrations of the National team’s exploits at the tournament.

The game, which by its match-up alone, ended in one of the biggest shocks in World Cup History as the number 51-ranked Saudis came from behind to dismantle one of the most talented and in-form Argentina teams ever assembled.

The result also snapped Argentina’s 36-game unbeaten run agonizing short of Italy’s record of 37 games without a loss.

The win now tips the group into an unexpected predicament coming into the tournament with the middle eastern team now the sole leader of Group C, which also contains the likes of Mexico and Poland who are now second and third after playing to a 0-0 draw.

Another win grants them grants the advancement to the next round of the tournament. They will next face European force Poland on Saturday (November 26).
