One of the biggest trepidations for many persons going on extreme rides at amusement parks is the fear of something going wrong on that ride. That however was the sad reality for dozens of patrons at a park in India when a ride came crashing down with persons strapped on board.
The disturbing incident which was caught on camera shows a drop tower ride, which is designed to give a 180-degree vertical drop from its reported pinnacle of 50 feet high, crashing directly to is foot without stop.
It’s understood that the ride at the fair, in the Indian state of Punjab, suddenly malfunctioned which caused the disaster.
The circular platform where riders were seated had reached the top of the vertical structure when it abruptly dropped to the ground, with nothing to break its 50-feet fall.
The “free fall” is the main element of a drop tower, which brings riders several feet in the air before plummeting back to ground level at high speed. However, a breaking mechanism is applied before full descent to gently return riders to the ground.
A feature which evidently absent from that night as the video shows riders bouncing violently against the ground, with some being pulled out of their seats by the strength of the whiplash.
Multiple reports assert that several injuries and hospitalizations were reported however no fatalities have been recorded from the incident.
While the video became viral on Sunday the actual date of the accident is yet to be confirmed.
Reports further assert the organizers claim that the incident is a first for the operation and has never happened before.
Local patrons at the scene however reportedly argue that no safety protocols were observed by the operators of the fair.
Investigations are said to be currently underway by local authorities to ascertain what exactly went wrong and if could have been avoided.
