A stellar line up has been confirmed for Friday’s crucial diamond league showdown in Lausanne which will determine who will walk away as diamond league champion in the women’s 100m this season.
The race which is stop number 11 on the 13-stop tour will see all of four women jostle for that diamond as they aim for valuable points for their league honor.
The championships may be over but that doesn’t mean competition ends as the line will not only have Jamaica’s triumphant trio; Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce Elaine Thompson-Herah and Shericka Jackson but a host of other championship finalist.
The race will include World 200m bronze medalist Britan’s Dina-Asher Smith who has 13 points coming into the race as well as Daryll Neita on 16 points.
The Jamaicans will however command a reserved attention in the meet as all three athletes remain in a close contest for the league honors.
Commonwealth double sprint champions Thompson-Herah who is fourth in the league with 16 points will be aiming to build on her game’s success and a few more points on her journey to the finals.
100m World Champion Fraser Pryce who has been immaculate all season enters third in the standings also on points will be equally anxious to move a few spots following the race, while 200m Champions Jackson on 20 points is expected to challenge for top honors likewise.
All will be seeking to overcome league leader Ivory Coast’s star Marie Jose Ta luo who leads the points 22 points.
The points allocations for each race are as follows:
Winner – 8 points second 7; third -6, fourth-5, fifth-4, sixth-3, seveth-2, eighth -1.
Given the closeness of the race with finals in Zurich set for September it’s suffice to say that all hands will be on deck in what’s set to be a cracker of a meeting.
