World Athletics

Jamaica’s young sprint sensation Tina Clayton has further cemented her name in history as one of the greatest junior athletes of all-time. This after breaking her own national junior record en route to becoming the undisputed U-20 100m World Champion.

Clayton scorched to a new lifetime best of 10.95 seconds in the finals of the Champions in Columbia to make it back-to-back title wins and extend Jamaica’s strong hold in the event on the women’s side.

Her predecessor Brianna Williams, was another precocious talent who held the title and record before 2020.

The former Girls champs star had set the previous national age group record of 10.96 seconds at the National Championship in June.

Clayton’s winning time was also a championship record for the event.

Former Edwin Allen teammate Serena Cole also starred on the evening bagging the silver medal in 11.14 seconds for the runner up spot to secure a quinella for the Jamaicans in the curtain closing event.

Shawnti Jackson of the USA was third in a personal best of 11.15 seconds.

The win continues the imperious Jamaican dominance in female sprinting, having captured all major championship 100m titles this year, including the World senior championship in Oregon with Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce and with Commonwealth title with Elaine Thompson-Herah.
