A 21-year-old resident of Frome River Westmoreland has been charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition after an operation at his home on July 18 yielded a firearm and several rounds of ammunition.
The accused is 21-year-old Deno Kongal of Ricketts River in Frome, Westmoreland.
Reports from the Savanna-La-Mar Police are that at about 9:30 a.m., a team of officers conducted a snap raid at Kongal’s home. During the raid, officers seized one 9-millimeter Browning pistol, with a magazine containing eight 9-millimeter cartridges was found wrapped in a pair of jeans.
Following the raid, Kongal was detained and later charged.
So far, the island has recorded a 60 percent increase in firearm and seizures as well as a 7 percent increase in the overall number of rifles seized when compared to the corresponding period of 2021.
In addition, the island has also recorded a 60 percent increase in ammunition seizures when compared to the corresponding period of 2021 which accounted for 4,483 ammunition seizures.
As it now stands however, Kongal’s court date is being finalized.
