Three suspects have been formally charged with theft and vandalism of fiber optic cables belonging to telecommunications company, FLOW, in St. Ann following their arrest on June 11.
The accused Andrew Cameron, 24, Randall Waisane, 26, and a 17-year-old girl were charged last week when they appeared before the St. Ann Parish Court and were offered bail. The trio, however, are slated to return to court on July 14.
Reports indicate that the trio was arrested after an Advisory was issued by the telecommunications giant Flow about fiber optic theft which disrupted services to thousands of customers in n Ocho Rios, St. Ann’s Bay, Runaway Bay, and Discovery Bay.
The communications giant also outlined that the latest acts of vandalism has cost the company a total of $1million, in addition to lost revenue.
In addition, since the start of 2022, the company has recorded a total of 250 acts of vandalism.
The company also added that as work was being completed to restore normalcy, thieves were allegedly preying on the company’s property elsewhere in St Ann.
In the interim, citizens are being urged to report acts of vandalism to the nearest police station.
