A probe has been launched by the Independent Commission into a shooting of a mentally ill patient at the Port Antonio Hospital in Portland on Wednesday.

According to reports, the patient was taken to the facility for treatment, however; the patient became erratic, and a conflict then ensued.

A call was then made to the police to quell the situation; amid this, the patient was shot by a police officer and has been hospitalized.
