National Football League (NFL) player Antonio Brown has been dropped from his franchise, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, following an apparent on-field meltdown during a game against the New York Jets on Sunday.
Head coach Bruce Arians made the announcement as he fielded questions in his post-match interview.
Arians didn’t mince words, stating that Brown will not be part of the team going forward.
“He’s no longer a Buc,” Arians declared.
In what seemed to be a moment of mental break, Brown decided to remove his protective equipment and jersey during the third quarter of their game and ran across the field to everyone’s bewilderment.
The four-time all-team wide receiver then proceeded to toss both his undershirt and gloves into the crowd before making his bizarre exit into the locker room.
Arians, 69, said “in all my years I have never seen anything like this. I’m shocked and disappointed for his display.”
Buccaneer’s quarterback Tom Brady also expressed shock about the incident, however, called for support for Brown during this time.
Despite Brown’s acrimonious departure, the reigning champions were able to pull off a 32-31 win in the dying moments to advance to play-offs.
