A Texan family is suing a Houston doctor for medical malpractice after their four-year-old son emerged from a hernia surgery with an unplanned vasectomy.
The lawsuit in question is seeking US$ 1 million in damages on the basis that the surgeon breached the standard of care by failing to exercise ordinary care while performing hernia repair surgery on the little boy.
Reports outlined that the patient who is from the Ford Bent County in Texas was admitted to the Texas Children’s hospital in August 2021 to undergo a Laparoscopic surgery to remove a hernia but in the course of the surgery the surgeon, Dr Susan Jarosz accidentally snipped the child’s vas deferens which is responsible for transporting sperm.
Though the damage can be reversed with corrective surgery, the family maintains that the error should have not been made in the first place as surgeons are supposed to positively identify what that anatomy is and then cut.
The family has also issued a statement by way of attorney condemning the act as it was done unnaturally and will pave the way for uncomfortable conversations with the child in future.
“We are saddened by this injury that was thrust onto our son unnaturally, through no fault of his own. We are dreading the conversations we will have to have with him in his teenage years and know he will have to have serious conversations with whoever he will want to start a family with ” the statement read.
