Corporate Communications Manager of the State-owned entity Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC), Cecil Thoms has outlined that 275 buses were dispatched on Monday to meet the increased demand following the resumption of face-to-face classes.
Besides that, an additional 45 buses were added to the fleet.
Thoms notes that this addition was made possible because of the work carried out by the maintenance team over the weekend.
“Our maintenance team worked feverishly over the weekend to ensure that we met our target, and thanks to them, we did. In addition, our drivers were on the ready to transport students and commuters at large, as we expected increased traffic and people with today, of course, being the resumption of face-to-face school,” he said.
He said there were minor delays with buses because of heavy congestion in sections of Kingston and St. Andrew, and Portmore and Spanish Town in St. Catherine.
Thoms also shared in an interview with SLEEK that an additional 50 buses will be added to the fleet in the next 6 to 9 months.
“New buses will be added to the fleet; however, this will take place within the next 6 to 9 months as certain details must be ironed out for this to become an actuality”.
