Thailand police officials have outlined that at least 13 people were killed, and dozens injured following a fire at a crowded nightclub in eastern Thailand this morning.

Police also said that all of the victims so far have been identified as Thai nationals.

The incident comes 13 years after pyrotechnics started a blaze at a New Year’s party at the crowded Santika nightclub in Bangkok, which killed 66 people and injured more than 200.

It is understood that around 12:45 a.m., patrons saw smoke and fire on the ceiling near the venue’s stage followed by the sound of explosions.

Following this an alarm was raised and the patrons were ushered out by security guards; the cause of the fire however is still unknown.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha on Friday assured families of victims that they would receive help from authorities and urged entertainment venues nationwide to ensure they have proper emergency exits and safety measures in place.
