Ray Jordan, 10 years of age of Columbia, South Carolina drank six bottles of water within an hour and was rushed to the hospital immediately.
It was the fourth of July when things took a turn for the worst for young Jordan’s family who were in a celebratory mode.
According to the parents, Ray was playing outside with his family when he got exhausted from the heat. He then went inside to get hydrated but ended up drinking six bottles of water from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
“He almost seemed like he was on drugs, drunk, even mentally handicapped at that point,” said the boy’s father, Jeff Jordan, according to WYFF 4.
The local news station (WYFF 4) reported that Doctors found that Ray’s sodium levels in his blood were dangerously low and quickly gave him something to help him urinate in hopes to help eliminate the fluids that were causing swelling around his brain.
Ray has since been treated and released in good health with no lingering symptoms or issues.
In the meantime, it’s noted on some medical websites that consuming too much water can cause hyponatremia, which occurs when blood sodium levels are lower than normal. When this happens your cells can swell and could be deadly if not treated quickly.
