A 33-year-old woman reportedly died, while nine persons were seriously injured following a stampede at a GloRilla concert in Rochester, New York on Sunday night.
According to reports, the stampede was created after some patrons began to scramble following claims of hearing gunfire which then caused mass panic throughout the venue.
Rappers GloRilla and Finesse2tymes were performing when fans thought they heard gunfire inside the venue at around 11 p.m., the Rochester Police Department told The Associated Press.
Police, however, further stated that “no evidence to support a shooting having occurred” inside the concert, Rochester Police Lt. Nicholas Adams said in a statement, as per AP.
Local authorities also reported that the 33-year woman was among those rushed to the hospital following the rush before eventually succumbing to her injuries while being treated.
Two of the other patrons are said to be in critical condition following the crush, Police added.
“The injuries appear to be as a result of a large crowd pushing towards the exits following accounts of individuals hearing what they believed to be gunshots,” Adams said.
GloRilla herself commented on the incident on social media.

In a remorseful post on Twitter, the FNF rapper explained that she was unaware of the tragedy while it was happening- “I’m just now hearing about what happened wtf 😢😢😢” she tweeted adding, “Praying everybody is ok,”.
Some concert-goers appeared to be of the belief that overcrowding could have played a factor in the tragedy.

Sunday night’s incident is the latest fatal crowd surge in recent times in the U.S.
In 2021, a massive stampede at Travis Scott’s Astro World Fest left 10 people dead and added scrutiny on patron safety at concerts in the aftermath
